4th Grade Art took a virtual tour of the Cave of Lascaux. We learned about the history of the cave and the content that was discovered on the walls and ceilings. Inspired by the cave, we also painted on the "ceiling" (under the desks). After our drawings are complete, we will use natural colors to paint our animals.

LEGO Self Portraits!
Every year, one of our last projects of the year is LEGO Self Portraits! To finish out their lower school art experience, all 5th graders create themselves in LEGO form. Check out some of our awesome portraits!
Flower Still Lifes
2nd Grade Art learned about Vincent Van Gogh and his still life painting. Specifically, we learned about his flower paintings! Using his sunflowers as inspiration, we created our own flower vases with patterned backgrounds of wallpaper.
Architecture Paper Bags!
In 3rd Grade Art, we learned about building and designing all types of buildings. We designed and planned our own 'paper bag' buildings! It was fun to build using paper!!

5th Grade Degas Ballerinas
In 5th Grade Art, we are learning about Impressionism. We started with Monet and reflections using paint and symmetry. Now we are working on pastel drawings of ballerinas inspired by Edgar Degas.
First we read the book, "Dance like a Butterfly" about Degas and his technique.
It was super fun to make the teacher example!
Can't wait to see the finished drawings!

Using warm and cool colors, students traced their hands and colored alternating warm and cool color combinations.
2nd Grade Matisse Collages
2nd Grade Art learned about Henri Matisse, the "Master of Color", and his paper cut outs. We watched a video that brought us back to his time and showed us how he started this interesting technique. We also learned about positive and negative space. Using these 2 types of space, we made colorful paper cut out collages!
Check out the Mati and Dada cartoon that we watched!

3rd Grade Negative Space Drawings
In 3rd grade art, we learned about positive and negative space. We had fun finding an interesting object from around the room...one of us found the object on our foot! :) Then, we drew the object in a detailed drawing as well as only the space around the object.
4th Grade Symmetrical Names
4th Grade Art learned about symmetrical balance. Using this type of balance, they drew their names using block letters and the reflection. It was hard drawing our names upside down and backwards, but we did a great job!
5th Grade Radial Names
5th Grade Art reviewed the different types of balance. Then, using radial balance as well as symmetrical, they created abstract designs using only their names. We love the "kaleidoscope" effect the names created!
